The Wellman Rotary Club is working with the city to improve the safety of pedestrians in the town.
The Rotary Club is wanting to construct a sidewalk on the north side of the Parkside Activities Center on 13th Street. The Rotary District 6000 will match the proceeds the local club makes at their annual dinner on July 4th. President Merridy Leichty talks about Rotary, “Our motto for Rotary is service above self. We have a lot of camaraderie and we want to attract younger members, they’re the ones that are going to be the future. The volunteer effort and the opportunity for leadership is what’s attractive to Rotary.”
Leichty says the first phase of this sidewalk project is to be done along 13th Street from 6th Avenue to the Parkside Activities Center. The second phase will be to extend the sidewalk down 13th Street and south down 1st Avenue, around the North Park. The final phase is to extend the sidewalk all the way down Ginkgo Avenue to Highway 22. Leichty anticipates the first phase to be complete by the fall.
