The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team traveled to Albia Friday and split a pair of games with the Blue Demons.
The Hawks took game one 12-2 and dropped the nightcap 8-4. In game one, Mid-Prairie got on the board first with a single run in the second which was matched by an Albia tally in the third. The Golden Hawks took control with a seven run fourth inning and scored four more times in the sixth to break the game wide open and finish the contest in six innings. The Golden Hawks finished with 15 hits as a team, Jacob Leonard pounded out three hits to lead the way. Ashton Bush recorded the victory on the hill going six innings and striking out five.
Albia grabbed control early in game two, pushing across four runs in the first. The lead would swell to 6-0 with two more in the third and eventually 7-0 with another in the fourth for Albia. Mid-Prairie got as close as 7-4 with a four run sixth but the Hawks could not complete the comeback. Braeden Nielsen led the Mid-Prairie offense with three hits, Jared Miller drove in a pair.
With the split, Mid-Prairie is now 14-11 on the season.
