Leave pets at home when you’re running errands is the advice PAWS and More director Amber Talbot shares.

Just last week three dogs died in a vehicle left unattended in Ottumwa. Talbot says temperatures in a car can escalate quickly, even in a shaded parking spot and the windows cracked. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, on an 80 degree day in 10 minutes the inside temperature of the car climbs to 99, and to nearly 110 degrees in just 10 more minutes. If your pet is outside it needs access to water and shade with air flow. Talbot says it’s best to keep pets in a cool area.
