Heavy rains and strong winds swept across southeastern Iowa Wednesday afternoon.

The line of strong thunderstorms impacted Washington, Louisa, Johnson, Henry, and Jefferson Counties. At 4 p.m. the National Weather Service advised the storms were located along a line extending from Kalona to near Riverside to near Cotter and south to Rome with torrential rainfall, winds in excess of 40 miles per hour, and pea-sized hail possible.

According to AccuWeather Washington received just over 0.6 inches of rain Wednesday. Columbus Junction had an inch of precipitation, while Riverside had 0.2 inches and Mt. Pleasant had 1.4 inches of rain within an hour.
