Intense drought conditions in southeast Iowa have forced ISU Extension to alter their field day planned for August 31 in Fairfield.
The event, hosted by agronomist Rebecca Vittetoe in collaboration with the Lower Skunk Watershed, was initially planned to educate farmers about low cost share opportunities available to those interested in doing cover crops. The field day will now address dry conditions and will focus on considering seeding cover crops in dry conditions. The workshop will be held at the Jefferson County Activities Building instead of at Jefferson County Farmer John Peck’s field as originally planned. Peck will still give a presentation on cover crops, but will share the modifications he’s made to his cover crops due to the dry conditions. This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested by August 28.
