As you transition from summer to fall with Labor Day trips and family outings the Iowa Department of Public Safety and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau are reminding you to be safe on Iowa’s roadways.
According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Labor Day weekend has become one of the deadliest times of the year for drunk-driving fatalities. In 2015 over the Labor Day holiday, there were 460 crash fatalities nationwide and 33% had blood alcohol levels at or above .08. Plan to use public transportation or have a designated sober driver if you plan to consume any alcohol. Take the keys away from friends who are impaired and make safe arrangements for them to get home. Local law enforcement will be stepping up enforcement now through September 3rd with an emphasis on impaired driving and seat belt use.
