The City of Keota has decided against having a special election measure for the city pool.
The council held a public hearing Monday to gather public input on what the city should do to fund pool repairs and a new liner. The city is considering taking out a $250,000 general obligation capital loan. Mayor Anthony Cansler says, “We have a rough estimate on a new liner for the pool. But what we want to do before we put a new liner in, is we want to get an engineer in to look at the concrete, look at some of the plumbing, get an idea of what it’ll cost to go in and work on the drain, the pumps, and stuff like that.”
The city does not need to have a special election for the loan as it is under $400,000. Cansler says, “We’re going to do a little more investigating, get some answers, try to get some firm numbers so we know what we’re looking at. And then we will get that information out to the public and possibly hold another public hearing just so folks that want to come and see what the numbers are, what it would cost them in the way of additional taxes and so on.”
Cansler says the council’s plan is to have another public hearing by March.
