The WACO football team rebounded on Friday night by defeating Springville in a barnburner 64-40.
The WACO offense has been productive for most of the season and Friday was no different. It didn’t take Elijah McGhoan long to find the endzone, as he broke out for a 65-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead. On the next defensive possession they forced a safety and then the offense marched right down the field capped off by a Colton Horak 14 yard touchdown scamper. WACO added to the lead with a Hunter Donaldson three-yard run and Colton Horak got in on the action to break out to a 29-0 lead after the first. Both teams traded blows in the second quarter highlighted by a 24-yard touchdown pass from Nik Coble to Calvin Battle and two more rushing scores from Horak. The Warriors led 51-20 going into the break. Springville tried to make a game of it late with a pair of touchdowns from Caleb Weber but the Warrior offense was too much as they tacked on to the lead to capture the 64-40 victory.
Coble was eight of 15 passing for 192 yards and a touchdown. Battle was his leading receiver being targeted four times for 62 yards and a touchdown. Horak finished with four scores on 124 yards rushing and added 11 tackles defensively.
With the win WACO improves to 2-3 as Springville drops to 2-3. The Warriors look for a winning streak Friday when they host English Valleys.
