The City of Riverside could see expansion with a potential new housing development.
Jeff Edberg of Lepic-Kroeger Realtors told the city council at their recent meeting that Apex Construction has agreed to build houses on a 28-acre property northeast of Riverside near Tupelo Boulevard that belongs to Yeggy-Roetlin Farms LLC. Around 70 homes would be built, both-single family and duplexes. Edberg asks that the city build the infrastructure – roads, sewer, and utilities, using tax-increment financing to cover the cost. Edberg explains the benefits the development could bring, “It was just a collaborative effort. We got here because we’re all putting our talent and energy into the project to see if in fact it’s a win-win-win situation. It looks like it may be, it looks like the landowner would have a land sale on land that’s right next to the city. It looks like the builder would have a project that would last five, seven, possibly 10 years. It looks like the city would have the opportunity to partner with this team and bring in new families to new homes right by the school. And if that’s true we’ll find it out through this budget process.”
The council voted 4-0 to ask MMS Consultants to gather preliminary budget figures for what it would cost to extend infrastructure to the proposed housing tract. Mayor Allen Schneider feels optimistic about the project, “I think it’s a good opportunity for growth in Riverside and that’s something we’ve been pushing for, for a while now. As long as it makes financial sense for all the parties involved I think it’s a great thing, and I think there was a lot of positive feedback and positive comments from the council as well.”
The council will decide whether it’s feasible to move forward with the project once they receive infrastructure budget numbers from MMS Consultants.
