October is a time for jack-o-lanterns, cobwebs, and menacing creatures at every turn.
The City of Winfield is inviting its residents to join in the spirit of Halloween this year with a home decorating contest. Winfield Deputy City Clerk Lisa Rees explains what inspired the contest, “Last year, during our community weiner roast we did hay racks with horses and just kind of gave kids a ride. So we thought we’d turn that into a home decorating contest to give them something to look at.”
Winfield residents can call the city hall to register their address or a neighbor’s home as a contestant. There will be five categories judged: best fall decorating, scariest, most creative, most original, and best kid friendly. The judging will coincide with the annual weiner roast on October 28 at 4 p.m., and homes will be judged as viewed from the street only. There will be prizes for the winners and there is no fee to enter.
