The Wellman City Council reached a decision on how to handle maintenance costs for the Parkside Activities Center Banquet Hall.
The council held a work session during their recent meeting to discuss the YMCA’s use of the facility and options of additional fees to help cover the maintenance costs of the room. City Administrator Kelly Litwiller explains the need for maintenance fees, “It’s not necessarily just the Y itself, even the parties that rent it for weddings and such too, but we just put a lot of money into it, repainting the entire thing, and we had the carpets cleaned and such. And I guess we just want to put some restraints on it before it gets to that point again.”
The council approved to allow Litwiller to discuss with the YMCA an amendment to their contract stating that they will pay a maintenance fee of $150 per month, YMCA will continue to not pay for water or sewer, and the city will no longer pay for electricity. Three new policies will also be discussed that the walls will not be used for stretching, no outdoor sports will be played in the hall, and no use of exercise ropes allowed.
