Completion of the Highways 1 and 22 intersection project in Kalona is behind schedule.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation all lanes at the intersection are expected to be open the first week of December. The project to remove the raised stop sign islands and reconstruct the intersection was anticipated to be finished by late October, weather and equipment permitting. The bridge replacement on Highway 22, a third of a mile east of Highway 1, is expected to be complete by the second or third week of December.
