The Washington Watershark boys swim program was well represented at last weekend’s state meet at the Marshalltown YMCA.
In the 50 free Ben Berhow brought home a state title with a time of 22.21 seconds. His second championship came in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.32. Berhow finished as state runner up in the 100 free. Michael Kimball was third in the 50 free with a time of 22.67 seconds. He was also fifth in the 100 and 200 free. Reece Mayer took 13th in the 50 free and 18th in the 100 free. Noah Kleese was 15th in the 50 and 100 free. In the 100 yard fly Colton Slaubaugh took 19th in 1:08.43, Zac Parsons was 20th, Reece Mayer 23rd and TJ Durst 28th. In the 50 breaststroke eight and under division Logan Westphal was 11th in 51.96. Ty Huber was 14th in the 50 breaststroke. In the 11-12 year old division Brennan Westphal was 10th in the 50 breaststroke in 39.08 seconds. He took eighth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:25.90. In the 100 yard backstroke Zac Parsons was 16th in 1:21.22. Logan Westphal was 11th in the eight and under 25 yard breaststroke in 23.97 seconds.
In relay events, the Washington team of Reece Mayer, Noah Kleese, Michael Kimball and Ben Berhow were state champs in the 200 free relay with their time of 1:35.32, the team of Colton Slaubaugh, Zac Parsons, TJ Durst and Lucas Kitchen were 10th. In the 15-21 year old 200 yard medley relay the team of Noah Kleese, Ben Berhow, Michael Kimball and Reece Mayer were third in 1:48.59 while the Watershark’s Zac Parsons, Lucas Kitchen, Colton Slaubaugh and TJ Durst were ninth. Eli Wulf, Ty Huber, Kaden Huber and Logan Westphal took 13th in 1:39.47 in the 100 yard medley relay. In the 13-14 year old 200 yard medley relay the team of Gabe Bruns, Brennen Westphal, Caleb Hoyle and Riley Yoder were 20th in 2:23.93.
