A search for bids has begun for the Galileo Drive development project in Riverside.

No comments were made during a public hearing for the project, and the plans, specifications, and contract given by MMS Consultants were approved by the city council. Mayor Allen Schneider describes the project, “It’s really just an extension of a subdivision that we created a couple of years ago. We had added a group of 17 lots I think, and we called that subdivision Cherry Lane. So this is the next street to the north of there, and the street will be just south of a site that we’ve got set aside for a possible community building in the future.”

Galileo Drive, named after a fictional spacecraft from the Star Trek series, will be located between Tupelo Boulevard and Kleopfer Avenue, to the west of Highland Elementary School. Schneider anticipates there will be six lots for sale on the street. Bids will be accepted until Wednesday at 2 p.m. at city hall, and the estimated base bid for the work is $580,000. The project is set to be completed by September 28.
