On Friday the Washington Demons needed overtime to win 3-2 over the Fort Madison Bloodhounds at Washington High School.
In the first ten minutes of the game both teams played evenly, then the Bloodhounds started to put pressure on the Demon defense and goalie Thomas Zimmer. The Bloodhounds struck first in the 27th minute on a breakaway goal. The Bloodhounds made it 2-0 when they scored on a free kick in the 40th minute. The score stood at 2-0 at the half..
In the second half the Demons picked up the pace and put pressure on the Bloodhounds. In the 47th minute, Zach Suchan was inside the box, when he was tripped and awarded a penalty kick. Suchan took the penalty kick and put in the net to make the score 2-1. In the 75th minute Suchan had the ball again, this time to the right of the Bloodhounds goalie in the 18-yard box and was tripped for the penalty. Julio Salgado Hernandez took the penalty shot and kicked to the goalie’s left side and in to the net to tie the game at 2.
The overtime was quick. n the 83rd minute Anthony Torres settled down the ball with his back towards the goal, made a move on the defenseman, turned around and quickly shot on goal. The goalie tried to stop the ball from going in, but the momentum carried him in to the goal for the win.
