As a precaution, extra law enforcement will be at the Wapello High School prom today (4/21) following the arrest of a 16-year-old for threat of terrorism.

According to the Wapello Police Department, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday they were made aware of a possible threat of a school shooting during prom, with an individual coming to shoot another individual. Immediately the police investigated and conducted a residential search warrant at a residence near Wapello. Following the investigation, a 16-year-old was placed in custody and charged with a class D felony for threat of terrorism and taken to the Lee County Juvenile Detention Center. According to the Wapello Police Department, “There appears to be no active threats at this time and the issue has been resolved.” The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Louisa County Attorney’s Office, and Juvenile Probation office assisted with the case.
