Artsits will bring easels, paint brushes, oils, and pastels to Washington for a new art contest.
Art Domestique is hosting the plein aire competition where artists are asked to capture local historic, memorable, or attractive sites in Washington. Joanne Worley with the non-profit explains the contest on June 9 and 10, “Artists from the area and surrounding areas are invited to attend. What they do is they sign in about 7:30 in the morning, and they get their canvas or whatever backboard they’re going to work on stamped so that we know that it was in there legally. Then they are given a list of spots in town and they go out and choose something to paint. There’s time limits; they have to have at least one, if not two paintings done by the end of the day.” They will then have Sunday morning to wrap up their pieces. The artwork must be turned in for judging by a certain time Sunday and then they will have two hours to create another piece on the square.
Artists are invited to use any medium. People can then purchase the artwork and the money will go back to the artists. If you have a location recommendation for an artist submit it to Art Domestique at the gallery on South Iowa Avenue.
