Last week rain fell in parts of Iowa, but soil moisture conditions remain the most dry in southeast and south central Iowa.

According to Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, “Several storm systems moved through the state last week and brought some needed precipitation to significant parts of the state. Unfortunately, we also saw severe weather and flooding as a result of some of the storms.” Topsoil moisture in southeast Iowa is rated at 14% very short, 45% short, 36% adequate and 5% surplus. Subsoil moisture in our corner of the state is rated at 18% very short, 47% short, 30% adequate and 5% surplus. Rain is in the forecast this week, listen to KCII for weather updates.
