The Washington Demon softball team continued their winning ways this weekend, beating South Tama and Central City to win their home tournament on Saturday.
The day started against the Trojans of South Tama, with the Demons taking a 4-3 win. Kellie Dallmeyer led the Demon attack, going 2-3 at the plate with 3 RBI. Alexa Mitchell did the pitching, throwing a complete game and giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out seven.
Central City would take the win against Pekin in the following game to advance to face Washington the tournament championship later that day. The Demons had seen Central City this season once before, losing to the Wildcats by just one run on the road. It was time to take their vengeance.
They took it and more, shutting out the Wildcats 4-0 to take home the championship. There were only two Demon hitters without at least one hit in that one. Molly Sparks was fantastic on both ends of the ball in that one, going 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored and throwing a complete game, three-hit shutout to get the win in the circle.
The win improves the Demons’ overall record to 11-17 and extends their winning streak to five games.
