The Washington City Council approved a change order for the Well 6 improvements project.
A third change order was presented to the city council at their recent meeting by FOX Engineering to add a stilling well and level sensor to Well 5. This is included in the Well 6 project in order for the well to match improvements made to Wells 6 and 7. The increase amount of this change order is $9,821 with 143 days added to the contract, for a final completion date of July 12th. The original completion date was May 1, 2017. City Administrator Brent Hinson comments on Northway Well and Pump Co.’s work, “I would tell you that I would not recommend this contractor again for anything. I think overall the quality of work that has been done has been okay but I think the days have been ridiculous.”
Mayor Jaron Rosien commented that even with the 143 days added to the contract, the contractor is still about 60 days behind on the project, which gives the possibility of $1,000 per day in liquidated damages for a total of $60,000 for the city. The council approved the change order with a 4-2 vote, expressing their displeasure at the project timeline.
