The number one Demons fan was missing from the stands at Washington’s first home football game Friday, but his spirit carried on through those knew him that weekend.

A tribute to the late Ed Jones was displayed on the scoreboard at Friday night’s game, and friend of Jones Steve Roth shares how Washington students paid tribute to him, “Eddie always sat in the student section and they had a tribute for him. They had a sign made for Eddie, ‘Will not be forgotten.’ There were a lot of them dressed like Eddie for him and the student section did not forget Eddie and that was very cool. A couple young ladies in town organized it, just fabulous students, and they did a great job and I saw a sign on Facebook about Eddie and all this and it was very cool.”

The Washington community continued celebrating Jones’ life Saturday night at Mills Seed Co. where the Southeast Iowa Folk Music Club sponsored an open mic fundraiser event to raise money for Jones’ memorial fund. The venue was packed until 11:30 that night as a variety of musicians performed and friends of Jones spoke about him. Organizer Dan Henderson says it was a festive evening, “One of the highlights was actually the very first person that performed was Henry Eicher who kicked off the event. He actually wrote a song for Eddie which was very, very touching and very appropriate for the occasion and I think people that new Eddie understood how well that song fit with who Eddie was.”

Over $1,100 was raised for memorials for Jones. Those who wish to donate to the fund can contact Roth at 319-653-1727, or send them to his address which can be found at KCIIRadio.com.
