The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team opens up district play tonight when they travel to Donnellson to face the Central Lee Hawks.

Mid-Prairie comes into the game with an overall record of 0-4 after a tight 27-22 loss to Iowa City Liberty on the road last Friday. In the game Justin Schwartz had 40 total touches for 174 all purpose yards and three touchdowns. Brad Tornow was three for 11 with 54 yards and a score.

On the year the Golden Hawks are led by Tornow through the air at 23 of 71 for 280 yards a pair of touchdowns and four interceptions. His favorite target is Schwartz with 13 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. Schwartz is also Mid-Prairie’s leading ground gainer at 274 yards on 74 carries and a pair of touchdowns. Grant Boyse leads the Golden Hawk defense with 30 tackles.

Central Lee also comes into tonight in search of their first win on the year. The Hawks dropped a tight game at West Burlington last week 36-31. They were led by Tyler Hopp with 229 yards and three scores on 22 carries. On the season Central Lee has Evan Pohren under center at 18 of 63 for 171 yards and five interceptions. His favorite target is TJ Stutes with eight catches for 28 yards. On the ground Hopp has 73 carries for 399 yards and three touchdowns. This week Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh talked about his team and getting ready for Central Lee. “They are always a tough opponent. In the years where we have to go down there it’s a tough place to play. You have to strap it up because they are going to hit you. It’s one of those situations where I think whoever comes out early, and plays well in the first quarter will carry momentum. We’re both looking for our first win. They have some talented kids. I hope our guys are up for the challenge.”
