The WACO and Lone Tree football teams squared off in a KCII-area battle last night, with the Warriors ultimately coming out victorious, 49-38.

WACO got out to a 27-0 lead midway through the second quarter, but Lone Tree put the shutout to bed with a two-yard touchdown run from Bryce Houser and a Brady Dauber two-point conversion.  The Lions would kick a field goal to send it to halftime with a 27-11 score.

It was almost all WACO in the third quarter as well, with the Warriors scoring three touchdowns in the quarter compared to Lone Tree’s one, making the score 49-17 going into the fourth quarter.  The Lions turned it on in the fourth to score three unanswered touchdowns, but it was too little too late.

It was a big night for WACO’s Colton Horak in all facets of the game; he ran for 155 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, caught five passes for 42 yards, completed a 26-yard pass for a touchdown and intercepted the ball on the defensive side.

Avery Knock was a highlight player for Lone Tree, hauling in seven catches for 81 yards and a 30-yard touchdown reception.  He also intercepted Nik Coble and ran it back 80 yards on the pick-six.

The win moves WACO up to 4-2 on the season, while Lone Tree falls to 1-5 after the loss.  These two teams will both take the field again next week; WACO heads to Victor to take on HLV and Lone Tree stays at home for the fifth straight week to face Tri County.  Both kickoffs are scheduled for 7:00.
