After a state quarterfinal run for the Highland football team, some of those players now take their talents to the basketball court. They’ll start off their season at home Tuesday night against Superconference foe Louisa-Muscatine.
The Huskies finished last year at 11-12, which included handing Wapello, an eventual state tournament team, its only loss of the regular season. The team graduates just two seniors from a year ago, neither of which saw any significant floor time.
As a result, they bring back a slew of pieces, including 20 point-per-game scorer Zach Lasek, who was just short of also averaging a double-double for the season (9.5 rebounds per game). They also bring back double-digit scorers Trey Lasek and Mason McFarland and their second-leading rebounder (behind Zach Lasek) in Brody Burton.
They start off their season against Louisa-Muscatine, a team they swept in two games last season. That game is scheduled to start at 7:30, following the girls’ game at 6:00.
