Over $234,000 was given to fire departments across Iowa by the Department of Natural Resources. The Washington Fire Department is one of 100 departments across the state to receive a grant from the DNR. Washington received $3,500. The Iowa DNR Forestry Section’s Fire Program along with the U.S. Forest Service awarded the 50% cost-sharing grants to rural fire departments. This is to help those departments aid in protection Iowans and their property from wildfires. The grants are to be used to help fund wildfire suppression equipment, personal protective equipment, and communications equipment.
