The Iowa Mennonite School boys basketball team hits the floor for the first time in 2019 Friday when they host the Danville Bears. They pulled into the holiday break with a 6-2 overall record.

IMS has won four straight pre-Christmas including a 51-48 victory at Highland last time out. In the win over the Huskies, Eli Ours led the way with 23 points. For the season, IMS is led by Ours at 14 points per game, ninth in the Southeast Iowa Superconference North division. Caleb Gingerich has the team lead and is third in the Superconference with 45 assists while Jeremy Niemeyer leads IMS on the glass with 57 rebounds, eighth in the SEISC.

Danville comes into the game with an overall mark of 5-5. Last time out for the Bears they pounded Central Lee 83-54. Max Wilcox leads the Bears scoring 17 points per game, third in the Southeast Iowa Superconference South Division. Bryce Carr and Tristan Miller share the team lead with 27 assists. Taylor Kennsett leads Danville on the glass with 37 boards. This week IMS head coach Dwight Gingerch talked about his team’s growth over break and the challenge Danville presents.”The place that I feel like we have grown the most is the opportunity to add more things to our repertoire. To get better at what we are doing and throw in some wrinkles. Danville is very balanced. Carr and Wilcox make for a great duo. They really like to push the break.”

These two teams last met in the 2017 Superconference Shoot out with Danville taking a 65-45 win in Kalona. You can hear all of the action live Friday night on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIradio.com, beginning with the Washington HyVee pregame show at 6:30 and tip off at 7p.m.
