Saving Brinton will not be in the running for an Oscar. The documentary that follows local historian Michael Zahs as he works to preserve and share some of the world’s oldest films that once belonged to Frank and Indiana Brinton was eligible for Academy Awards consideration. The 87-minute film that shows many areas of Washington County was one of 166 films in the category and made it to the group of 50, however it didn’t make it to the short list of 15.
In the last year, Saving Brinton has been shown at film festivals across North America, and overseas in Europe, Asia, and South America. The documentary was created by Andrew Sherburne, Tommy Haines, and John Richard. And while they may not walk the red carpet in Los Angeles, they did walk the red carpet when the documentary debuted, where Brinton had once shown the films, at Washington’s State Theater to a sold out crowd in September of 2017. The documentary is now available for purchase.
