The Keota basketball teams took to the road for a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader on Thursday night, with the girls losing and the boys taking the victory against BGM.
The girls’ game came first, with the Eagles taking a 42-32 loss. Keota got out to a hot start to take an 11-9 lead going into the second quarter. They seemed to lose the wind under their wings in the second and third quarters, however, scoring a combined six points across the two periods. They put up 15 in the fourth alone, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.
The boys were next, taking a 50-49 win. It was tight from the get-go, as neither team ever led by more than about six points throughout the night. The Bears were down three with a few seconds to go, but the Eagles’ tight perimeter D forced a them to go inside for the two. The lay-up was good, but it came with about three seconds to go, so the Eagles just ran clock out from there. JD Stout had another big game, tacking on 40 points.
Thursday night’s action moves the girls to 6-12 and the boys to 10-6 on the season. They’ll go at it again on Tuesday in a home doubleheader against English Valleys.
