Mid-Prairie freshman Rylee Vercande will travel to Waverly-Shell Rock High School Saturday to compete in the first ever Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Girls State Championship meet.
In the first ever girls state rankings released last week by iawrestle.com, the Golden Hawk freshman was ranked No. 1 in the state at 132lbs. She will be joined by 12 other competitors in her bracket, all vying for a state title. She talked this week about the opportunity. “It’s nice. It’s still pretty small but it’s growing. I don’t want to say it’s a lot of pressure because I know I’m a good wrestler but everyone notices and looks up to you. Hopefully I can get a state title.”
Action gets underway at 10:30a.m. and continues all day at Waverly-Shell Rock High School.
