As a wintry mix falls across the KCII-listening area, motorists and pedestrians are reminded to be careful with ice and snow. According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm is again sweeping across eastern Iowa Tuesday into Wednesday with accumulating snow and a wintry mix.
A winter storm warning is in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday for Keokuk, Johnson, Iowa, Cedar and Clinton Counties. Heavy snow is expected with a wintry mix. The NWS starts total snow accumulations of five to eight inches are expected and there could also be a light glazing of ice.
The NWS advises that in areas that rise above freezing temperatures, pavement temperatures will be slow to respond because of the recent cold conditions and it increases the risk of light icing amounts from freezing rain. Tonight temperatures are expected to fall quickly through the 20s and into the 10s, which could lead to a flash freeze situation on untreated surfaces. Travel could be difficult. Slick roads and sidewalks are possible, check conditions before going out. Listen to KCII for weather updates and cancellation and delay information.
1 p.m. update: Washington County has been added to the winter storm warning.
