The Washington basketball teams welcome Keokuk to town for a Southeast Conference doubleheader tonight, weather permitting, for Slam Dunk Cancer night.
The Demon girls come in at 6-9 on the year and have gone 1-5 since the start of new year. Their most recent action came on the road against Ottumwa this past Monday, losing by 39. The boys, meanwhile, have gone 3-2 since the break and enter the night at 5-7. All three of their wins in the new year have come on the road.
This is the second cancer awareness event put on by Washington athletics this season. The wrestling team had Take Down Cancer night on January 3, in which money was raised through t-shirt sales, concessions, and a minute-long “speed round” in between matches where a couple buckets were passed through the crowd. Athletic Director Brent Van Weelden said the speed round alone raised about $500.
Tonight’s doubleheader will be on KCII starting at 5:45 with the Washington HyVee Pregame Show. Tip-off of the girls’ game is set for 6:15 with the boys to follow.
