The Washington basketball teams took to their home court last night for a Southeast Conference doubleheader, with the girls taking the loss and the boys picking up the win against Keokuk.
The girls’ game was first, with the Demons taking a 43-33 loss. The Demons were hot out of the gate, taking a 12-8 lead into the second quarter. They would stagnate after that, however, only scoring two points in the second quarter and allowing the Chiefs to retake the lead and build on it for the rest of the game. Olivia Pacha led the way with nine points off the bench, and Kinsey Duwa came away with five in rapid succession with about a minute left in the game to put the Demons within 10.
The boys’ game was an entirely different story. After losing in Keokuk earlier this season, the Demons manhandled the Chiefs in every facet of the game to win 76-42. Every single player on the Washington roster got to play last night, and every single one of them scored at least one point. Brock Sobaski had a huge game off the bench, dropping a career-high 18 points.
The loss moves the girls to 6-10 on the year, while the boys improve to 6-7. Their next action comes on Monday when they head to Mid-Prairie to take on the Golden Hawks.
