A trial date has been set for a man who is charged with shooting at a Keokuk County Deputy. In January, 72-year-old Michael McClure of Richland was charged with going armed with intent, reckless use of a firearm, use of a deadly weapon and assault of a person in certain occupations after he shot his shotgun within four-feet of Deputy Jeffrey Runnells.

On January 6th the Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from McClure who stated there were several people in his yard, according to a criminal complaint filed with the Keokuk County Clerk of Court. When deputies arrived and knocked on the door, McClure shot his shotgun through the window, four feet from where Runnells was standing.

McClure entered a not-guilty plea January 31st. The Keokuk County Court has scheduled a pretrial conference for May 24, and the trial is set to begin June 18th.
