A mobile home was considered a total loss after it caught fire in rural Wapello.
Friday afternoon Wapello Fire and Rescue was dispatched to Woodland Court in northwest Wapello. Crews arrived to a mobile home with heavy fire shortly after 4 p.m., according to Wapello Fire and Rescue. Crews from Morning Sun, Columbus Junction, and Grandview also responded to the call. A total of 30 firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to other homes, having to fight strong winds and below freezing temperatures. Firefighters cleared the scene just after 9 p.m. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Also assisting at the scene were Wapello County Ambulance, Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Wapello Police, and Eastern Iowa Light and Power.
