The Class 1A district tournament gets underway Thursday night at Iowa Mennonite School featuring four KCII area teams at Hillcrest Union.
In game one, WACO will face off with Lone Tree. The Warriors enter the game with an overall record of 14-4. In their last game they beat Central Lee 67-42 on the strength of a Nik Coble triple double. The junior ended with 19 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists. On the season the Warriors are led by Coble at 18 points per game, second in the Superconference South. He is fourth in the state in 1A with 250 rebounds. Colton Horak is sixth in the state with 120 assists.
Lone Tree comes in with an overall record of 8-10. Last time out they were beaten by Highland 59-57 despite 13 points from Avery Knock. On the year the Lions are led by Keegan Edwards at 16 points per game, sixth in the Superconference North. His 113 assists are best on the team and second in the North. Edwards is also the team leader with 149 rebounds, fourth in the league.
The Warriors and Lions will tip off at 6:30 this evening in Kalona
The nightcap of the doubleheader will be Iowa Mennonite hosting the Highland Huskies. IMS comes in with an overall record of 12-6. In their last game they topped HLV on Senior Night last Friday 65-45 with Trevor Leyden leading the attack scoring 16 points. On the season, IMS is led by Eli Ours with 13 points per game, ninth in the Superconference. Caleb Gingerich has the team lead with 92 assists, third in the conference. Jeremy Niemeyer leads IMS in rebounding with 116 boards, seventh in the Superconference.
Highland enters the game with an overall mark of 12-7. Last time out they beat Lone Tree 59-57 behind 26 points and 12 rebounds from Zack Lasek. On the season, the Huskies are led by Zack Lasek leads Highland at 20 points per game, third in the Superconference North. He also leads Highland with 207 rebounds, second in the conference. Trey Lasek has the team lead with 67 assists, fourth in the north. These two teams met twice during the regular season with IMS winning both meetings by a combined eight points.
