Nearly 1,000 homes in Kalona lost power Tuesday due to complications from the weather. According to Alliant Spokesman Mike Wagner, at 1:53 p.m. a total of 963 customers lost power. Wagner stated that many power lines saw up to a half-inch of ice that added extra weight to the line, then once the wind started to pick up it caused the power outage. Alliant was able to re-energize the homes by 3:24 p.m. Then at 3:36 that same afternoon a blown fuse caused another 36 homes to lose power. That issue was resolved by 4:50 p.m.
