The Sigourney girls basketball team will be on the floor Monday night in the class 1A regional finals. 

As a program, Sigourney has advanced to the state tournament just twice in their history, 1921 and 1992, both were under the six-on-six rules. This year’s team enters ranked No. 15 in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They have a 19-3 overall record and have collected tournament wins over Winfield-Mt. Union and Holy Trinity Catholic, beating the Crusaders in the semifinals by a 36-25 score. On the season, Sigourney is led by Megan Stuhr at 14 points per game, fourth in the South Iowa Cedar League. Summer Barthelman leads the Savages with 50 assists, seventh in the SICL while Kaylee Weber has pulled down 111 rebounds.

The Savages opponent is No. 3 ranked Montezuma. The Bravettes enter with an overall record of 20-2, sporting playoff wins over Moravia and Keota. The most recent over the Eagles by a 66-22 score in the semifinals. On the season Montezuma is led by Shateah Wetering at 19 points per game, sixth in class 1A. She also leads the team with 110 rebounds. Riley Gatton leads the Bravettes and the conference with 86 assists. These two teams met once during the regular season with Montezuma scoring a 26-24 win.
