The death toll has climbed for influenza-associated mortality in Iowa. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, there have now been eight deaths in the state, none of the cases are pediatric. Last week, influenza activity increased on several measures. There were three long-term care influenza outbreaks and 46 influenza-associated hospitalizations. So far this flu season, there have been 230 hospitalizations: 21 were children under the age of four, nine people were between the ages of five and 24, 32 were between 25 and 49 years old, 60 people were between 50 and 64 years old, and 108 were people over the age of 64. Across the state, RSV continues to be the predominate non-influenza virus with 129 cases detected last week.
