Another winter storm has dumped snow across Iowa, as an active weather pattern continues, according to the National Weather Service. The pattern shows the possibility of more storms later this month and into early March.
With winter weather hanging around, Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen encourages people to keep an emergency kit in their cars, “You want to make sure you have communication, so everybody’s always got their cell phone with them. But is it always charged? Do you have a car charger? Have some extra layers of clothing, warm blankets, some non-perishable food to keep in your car. Water is always good to have, but make sure that if you get a brand new bottle of water open it up and dump a little out because if it freezes, the bottle of water expands when it freezes and you could have a mess. You want some tools, you know, your ice scraper, a little shovel if you need it, kitty litter if you get stuck. The litter can be put under your tires to help get traction. At this point in the season, that kit may need to be restocked.
She adds it is also good to check the fluids in your vehicle, and be sure the windshield wiper blades are up to par to help clear your car of snow or ice.
