The Highland Community School District announced they are preparing a plan to make up lost time due to snow days.

As of February 20th, Highland has missed 13 days of school due to winter weather. Highland extended their school days by 15 minutes before the year started in the fall, this gave them a 44.5-hour-cushion to stay above the 1,080 hour minimum set by the state.

Dr. Mike Jorgensen from the Highland School District says this can also be a tough situation in respect to paying faculty. Jorgensen stated in his monthly Highland Highlights, “Most teachers and support staff contract based on days, so to forgive days means less pay for those who work on an hourly basis. That certainly needs to be a consideration.” According to a release by the district, they are hoping to present a proposal to the school board during the March 11th meeting.
