The Columbus Junction City Council is looking to add a snow emergency policy to city code. According to City Clerk Julie Heindel, the new policy shines a light on some issues the city has been seeing this winter, “It’s basically so people remove their vehicles from the street so we have the ability to plow them; and the pushing of snow onto the street onto the street, people haven’t been following that.”
The policy prohibits citizens from pushing snow from their property onto the street, and prohibits parking on any public street, alley, or city owned off street when the city declares a snow emergency. This gives the city the ability to give out citations or impound vehicles in violation. The first reading of the policy will be at Wednesday’s City Council meeting at the Columbus Junction City hall.
