An individual was taken to the hospital after a fire in rural Columbus Junction. According to Wapello Fire and Rescue, at 4 a.m. Monday they were dispatched to a structure fire at 18318 125th Street. Wapello Fire and Rescue encountered delays on their drive due to icy road conditions. Columbus Junction Fire crews were first on the scene and discovered a double-wide mobile home engulfed in flames with a detached garage also on fire. A total of 25 firefighters from Wapello, Columbus Junction, and Morning Sun were able to extinguish the fire.

The scene was cleared at 8 a.m. and the cause remains under investigation. An individual was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The name and condition of the individual was not released. Other agencies at the scene were the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Wapello Community Ambulance, and Eastern Iowa Light and Power.
