
A New London farm has been hit with a five-figure fine and probation after pleading guilty to charges of discharging a pollutant. Etcher Family Farms was fined $50,000 and sentenced to five years of probation after negligently discharging agricultural waste pollutants. In July of 2015, 29-year-old Benjamin Allen McFarland of New London discharged pollutants which led to a discharge of waste. The pollutants were discharged into an unnamed tributary to Big Creek. McFarland was sentenced to two years probation. Owner and operator of Etcher Family Farms 55-year-old Scott Etcher was sentenced to five years of probation. Both McFarland and Etcher will have to pay a $25 special assessment fee
