A phone scam has been targeting area residents. According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, there have been reports of a caller trying to get residents to purchase Google Play gift cards. The caller is claiming to be Lieutenant Kevin Kinney and says that he is calling because you have missed jury duty in an attempt to gain personal information and gift cards.

The caller is able to emulate the Johnson County Sheriff’s phone number to make it look legitimate. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents that they will not contact residents by phone about matters such as missed jury duty, nor will they ask for payment over the phone. If you receive any suspicious calls like this, hang up and contact local law enforcement.
