Washington’s first ever Winter County Fair was held Saturday with 139 people in attendance. The funds raised from the event will benefit Washington County 4-H. Organizer Janelle Johnson explained that the state 4-H charges each member $35 in enrollment fees and with gifts and fundraising from events like this, last year in Washington County it was $8 per student. Over $5,000 was raised Saturday and that will help alleviate the 4-H enrollment fees locally.

When asked if the event would be held again next year, Johnson said, “Going into it we weren’t really sure if we would hold it again next year. Because, again, the event happened just because of a storm that cancelled the auction during the fair and created a need to have it at another time. But after the success of the event this year, I would not be surprised if it happened in years to come.”

Saturday’s event at the KC Hall included a catered meal, 10 wood carvings were auctioned off, and there was a 50/50 raffle.
