The Sigourney girls’ basketball team finished the year at 19-4, improving last season’s win total by one, while making it all the way to the regional final.  As a result of their success, four Savage players were named to the South Iowa Cedar League’s all-conference teams.

The clear leader of this year’s team, at least on paper, was junior Megan Stuhr.  She was the team’s leading scorer, free throw shooter, and shot-blocker, and was second on the team in assists while leading the conference in steals with 103, the sixth-highest total in Class 1A.  Her performance was enough to unanimously land her a spot on the first all-conference team.

The Savages also had one second-teamer in Kaylee Weber.  Weber shined in her sophomore season, coming through as the team’s second-leading scorer while finishing tops on the team in rebounds and field goal percentage.

Two honorable mentions round out the Savage selections in junior Makenna Hammes and senior Summer Barthelman.  Hammes was the team’s second-leading rebounder, finishing just one behind Weber, while also shooting over 40 percent from the field.  Barthelman was never an offensive powerhouse, but her lights-out defense always got the job done.  Her 78 steals are second in the SICL.

The Savages will lose two seniors to graduation in the form of Barthelman and Rileigh Leonard, bringing back Stuhr, Weber, Hammes and he rest of this year’s Sigourney squad.
