The Washington archery team took to the state tournament in Des Moines this past weekend, with the high school team taking fourth and the middle school team winning it all.

Overall, the high school team scored 3360 points, which was just eight points behind North Linn, the third-place team.  The highest individual scorer was junior Samantha Mellinger, who shot a 288 and finished in a tie for eighteenth overall (sixth among competing girls).  David Rees and Jack Strabala round out the top three finishers on the team, shooting a 286 and 285, respectively.  1800 of the team’s 3360 points came from 10’s.

The middle school team took first in a field of 30, scoring a collective 3278 points.  Eighth-grader Curtis Stender was the top finisher on the middle school side, shooting a 286 and tying for sixth place in the middle school division.  Fellow eighth-grader Iris Peterson also broke the 280 threshold, putting up 281.  The team finished with 187 10’s.
