The Kalona Chamber of Commerce and the City of Kalona will be teaming up to host Kalona Days this year. In the past, the chamber has held Kalona Days in June and the city has put together the Kalona Celebration event in August. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh said at the recent city council meeting that attendance has been declining at the Kalona Celebration for events other than the public appreciation awards.
Schlabaugh announced to the council that discussions had been made to partner with the chamber to bring activites from the Kalona Celebration to Kalona Days and hold one large event as opposed to two smaller events. The chamber will remain in charge of funding their usual activities, while the city will incorporate their public appreciation awards ceremony as well as having inflatables for the kids that Kalona Days hasn’t had before. While no formal action needed to taken by the council, they voiced their approval with Schlabaugh.
