Mid-Prairie students planning to help rebuild houses damaged by Hurricane Florence will have to wait a little bit longer. A set of 16 alternative learning students were scheduled to go to Beaufort, North Carolina, to help rebuild homes in mid-February, but due to weather conditions the trip had to be postponed.

Despite the delay, Behavioral Interventionist Matt Freel is excited about giving these students an opportunity to give back, “I think it really gives them a little bit of a confidence booster that not everybody succeeds in that traditional classroom, but they still have a ton of value they can add to a community. If you think about those kids who aren’t the best at taking tests, who aren’t the best at reading and writing, but they can go out and help somebody and find real value in that, it’s incredibly impactful for those kids.”

The new plan is to go to Tampa, Florida April 14th-19th. Freel says the host site they originally made plans with in Beaufort will be closed that week, causing the change in venue.
