A loaded handgun was recovered during a vehicle search in Mount Pleasant. According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, at 9:45 a.m. Monday a traffic stop was conducted in the 2100 block of East Washington Street in Mount Pleasant. The Sheriff’s Office K-9 was brought in to assist, which led to a full search of the vehicle. Deputies recovered a loaded handgun. The driver was 54-year-old Max Benge of Hillsboro. Benge was arrested and charged with carrying weapons, no valid driver’s license, and failure to prove security against liability.
